My Responses to Topical Emails

Dear Resident,

I appreciate constituents’ concerns about a wide variety of local and national issues.

I often receive a large amount of identical emails which are often sent from campaign organisations. I appreciate that these issues are of importance to constituents, but the volume of campaign emails that are now being generated has meant my responses to urgent casework enquiries were delayed. Therefore I can no longer guarantee a quick response to each individual standard email.

I have therefore created a section of my website where I will be posting my responses to various subjects.

If you send me a standard email, you will receive a response directing you to this page of my website.

I shall endeavour to update topics as soon as I have had the chance to consult with Ministers and to conduct research into the concerns raised in these emails.

I shall, of course, continue to respond to individual constituency casework enquiries via email and letter.

All the best,

signature

Opinion - Post Brexit Trade Deals

I understand the concerns regarding standards in future trade agreements, the scrutiny of such agreements, and investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanisms. However, I would like to assure you that such concerns are unfounded.

Opinion-Arthritis

I know this can be a very painful and debilitating condition.

Opinion- Autism

Autism is a complex condition which affects many people in very different ways. In recent times, great progress has been made in improving our understanding of autism.

Opinion- Race Horse Welfare

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the independent body responsible for regulating the sport of horseracing. It works closely with animal charities such as the RSPCA and World Horse Welfare to ensure that the highest of standards are upheld.

Opinion - Talking Buses

Audio visual equipment on buses can support a wide range of disabled passengers to feel sufficiently confident to use buses. It enables them to access education, employment and other services, whether or not they are familiar with the route they are travelling.

Opinion- HCPC Fees

First I would like to recognise the important work done by independent regulators like the HCPC. These organisations help to protect the public and to ensure high levels of service and professionalism.

Opinion- Christophobia

It is an extraordinary figure that nearly a quarter of a billion people are suffering persecution today because of their Christian faith. In addition, 80 per cent of people who suffer persecution because of their faith are Christian.

Opinion- Human Rights Defenders

Regrettably, human rights defenders face unprecedented attack in many parts of the world. In 2018 alone, I understand that more than 300 such defenders were killed, and thousands more imprisoned, attacked or tortured around the world.
